A Service of Thanksgiving for the life and work of Sir Stirling Moss will be held at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 8th May at 11.00 am.
More than 2000 people (including Richard) are expected to gather at the Abbey to celebrate and remember his life and achievements including his legendary wins at the Monaco Grand Prix, the Mille Miglia, and the Targa Florio. These races, together with numerous others in so many different categories, have cemented his reputation as one of the most revered and respected figures in motorsport history.
Speakers at the service will include Sir Jackie Stewart, motor sport journalist and commentator Simon Taylor, and The Duke of Richmond and Gordon.
Some of the cars that he raced will also be on display outside the Abbey, including the 1955 Mille Miglia-winning Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR ‘722’.
Sir Stirling was also known as a “joker” and great fun to be around, and it’s perhaps worth recalling that during the time of his great successes that humour extended to the traffic police who upon pulling over speeding motorists had been heard to say, “who do you think you are, Stirling Moss”!
A truly well rounded and supremely talented man who fully deserved all the praise and adulation that he received.
